True Hot Power Yoga

What is True Hot Power Yoga?

If you’ve ever walked into a yoga studio advertising “hot yoga,” you might assume all heated classes are the same—but that’s far from the truth. At Yoga Rouge, we take pride in offering True Hot Power Yoga, a practice deeply rooted in the Baptiste Method, one of the most authentic and transformative styles of yoga today.

The Roots of Hot Power Yoga

Hot Power Yoga, as we teach it, comes directly from the lineage of Baron Baptiste, a pioneer in bringing powerful, breath-driven, and physically challenging yoga to the modern world. What makes our studio unique? Our owner, Heather Kemp, trained under (two of) Baron Baptiste’s master trainers, (Philip Ours and Stacey Dockins) ensuring that the practice we share maintains its authenticity, integrity, and effectiveness.

The Baptiste Method: Strength, Breath, and Transformation

The Baptiste Method is a modern, powerful approach to yoga that blends heat, movement, breath, and mindfulness to create a physically invigorating yet deeply meditative practice. It is designed to challenge the body while cultivating mental resilience and personal growth. Unlike some styles of yoga that focus solely on (poses) flexibility or relaxation, Baptiste Power Yoga encourages strength, stability, and self-awareness through an intentional structure:

Dynamic Asana Practice: A strong, flowing vinyasa sequence that builds endurance, mobility, and power. Each posture is designed to be accessible yet challenging, allowing students to push and explore their limits safThe Baptiste Method is a modern, powerful approach to yoga that blends heat, movement, breath, and mindfulness to create a physically invigorating yet deeply meditative practice. It is designed to challenge the body while cultivating mental resilience and personal growth. Unlike some styles of yoga that focus solely on (poses) flexibility or relaxation, Baptiste Power Yoga encourages strength, stability, and self-awareness through an intentional strely. Breath-Driven Movement: Breath is the guiding force of the practice, linking movement to intentional breathing patterns. This deepens focus, improves oxygen flow, and creates a rhythmic, meditative state that enhances endurance and presence. Heat for Expansion: Practicing in a heated room encourages deeper stretching, increased circulation, and detoxification, helping students open up physically and mentally. Mindfulness & Inquiry: Through meditation and self-reflection, students are encouraged to turn inward, break through personal limitations, and cultivate mental clarity both on and off the mat.

What Makes It “True” Hot Power Yoga?

Not all hot yoga is the same. Some studios rely on extreme heat with little movement, while others focus on athleticism without mindfulness. Additionally, many yoga studios use HVAC heating systems or artificial heating methods, which can feel dry and stagnant. At Yoga Rouge, we use special heat panels that create an ambient warmth, similar to standing in the shade on a hot summer day. This gentle, radiant heat warms the body from the inside out, supporting muscle relaxation, joint mobility, and overall endurance without the suffocating intensity of forced-air heating. (we add to that a steamer for humidity or moist heat which allows you to breath easier without drying the sinuses and also offers extra detoxification and is amazing for your skin.) (“true hot power” is a breath based yoga. Matching your movement to your breath and breath to your movement. Most people think power yoga is moving fast, when in fact it is moving slowly and mindfully. The “power” in power yoga IS the breath. Breath is used to transition from pose to pose, to build each pose, to stay in each pose, to stay in the practice/present and build the energy.) (A lot of yogas talk about breath but don’t use breath. Breath is the most important component in power yoga, and should be in all true yoga.)

Heated Environment: Our studio is heated to an optimal temperature, enhancing flexibility, detoxification, and mental resilience without overwhelming the body. Powerful Vinyasa Flow: We integrate dynamic sequences that strengthen the body, challenge endurance, and promote balance. Breath & Mindfulness: Every class incorporates breathwork and meditation, staying true to the holistic principles of the Baptiste Method. The breath is the foundation of the practice, guiding each movement and creating a deeper connection between body and mind. Our teachers are highly attuned to the breath and movement of each student, offering adjustments and cues to ensure alignment and energy flow remain strong throughout the class. Expert Instruction: Every teacher at our studio is 200+ hour certified, ensuring that you’re learning from knowledgeable and experienced instructors. They don’t just lead a sequence—they watch, listen, and respond to how students breathe and move, offering personalized guidance to enhance the practice.
